Rare Disease Day 2020 is on Saturday 29 February – a very rare day as it is a leap year. This year our message is that ‘Rare is many, rare is strong and rare is proud!’
Rare Disease Day is entering a new phase, focusing on advocating for increased equity for the rare disease community.
The campaign message reframes perceptions of what it means to be ‘rare’ so that no one is left behind in achieving greater equity.
We must re-double our efforts to show that rare isn’t scarce, rare isn’t infrequent, rare isn’t remote.
In fact, there are more than 300 million patients, each supported by family, friends and a team of carers, that make up the rare disease community worldwide. Over 6,000 different diseases.
Collectively, they make up the third largest country in the world.
The likely truth is that you know one of the 1 in 20 people affected by a rare disease.
We need society to understand that millions of people living with a rare disease around the world face inequitable access to diagnosis, treatment and care.Â
It’s time to show your support for people living with a rare disease to show that rare is many, rare is strong and rare is proud!
Rare is many. Rare is over 300 million people around the globe.
Rare is strong. The rare disease community joins together across borders and diseases to raise awareness and advocate for equity.
Rare is proud. Show your support for the rare disease community with pride!
Now’s the time to start planning your Rare Disease Day activities!
