Whitleigh’s Casting for the Curve

The story of Courtney

In December, my 18-month-old daughter, Whitleigh was diagnosed with Progressive Infantile Idiopathic Scoliosis. While scoliosis is not rare, this form of it is! Only 1 in 10,000 children are diagnosed each year, as the spine begins to curve between 0 and 3 months. If not addressed through casting, bracing, or surgery, the diagnosis can be life threatening–causing major heart and lung issues. Some children cast for years in order to delay surgery, which can cause restricted lung capacity if performed too early! These babies live a life different from their peers, and they deserve to be celebrated!
