The story of Esther
Born and raised in Kenya, my one year old daughter Tunu is a symbol of strength, love and resilience. She is our very own smile ambassador, lighting up the room everywhere she goes, always spreading love and joy. She lives up to her name Tunu- Swahili word meaning ‘something of treasure’.
Diagnosed with Arthrogyroposis Multiple Complex (A group of disorders characterized by congenital limb contractures manifesting as limitation of movement of multiple limb joints at birth that is usually non-progressive and may include muscle weakness and fibrosis. This disorder is always associated with decreased intrauterine fetal movement which leads secondarily to the contractures.) , From day 1, she has braced the process of casting of her legs to correct her clubfoot and splinting of her arms to increase hand function, minor procedures and countless therapy sessions truly making her THE BOLD ONE OUT amongst people. A truly extraordinary child with an extraordinary purpose.
Tunu enjoys good food, long drives, singing along to her kiddie tunes, spending time with her loved ones and playing with her legos. She has taught us to appreciate the small wins and to understand that the body is merely just a vessel, it’s the spirit within that lives.Â
