The story of Wei Han
Hi there I am Wei Han, and I have spinal muscular atrophy type III. I was quite young when I found out about my condition and honestly did not put too much thought into it. I only wanted to lead a normal life and do the things that all my friends could do. It was only later on when my condition worsened that I had to readjust my expectations for myself, and accept myself for who I am.
As I grow older, there are undoubtedly things that I am concerned with about my future and its uncertainties. Leaving junior college and going into university and into the real world will be a huge transition for me, and something that I will be both nervous yet excited about. Despite it all, I am staying positive, optimistic and strong, focusing on seeing things on the bright side. I continue to go out and chill with my friends and not isolate myself at home.
Recently I’ve just started using the wheelchair and have been taking public transport from work. It’s never easy to live with this condition and I hope that in the future there will be a treatment, allowing me to lead a more independent life and the ability to contribute more back to the society.
