Scimitar Syndrome

The story of Katy baker

I was born 8 weeks premature in March 1997. At 3 months old, I developed a chest infection and it was then where I was taken to a specalist heart and lung hospital in London. After many tests and consultations, I was diagnosed with Scimitar Syndrome. A rare heart defect which also means I only have 1 working lung. Scimitar Syndrome affects 1 in 100,00 people.
Since my diagnosis, it was caused over health complications but that hasn’t stopped me. I have joined my University’a trampolining team, made a film with a charity about how illness should not stop you from achieving and I want to continue to spread my message in the future.
