La Policondritis Recidivante es una rara enfermedad inmunomediada inflamatoria que afecta no solo a las estructuras con cartílago y colágeno, sino también a los órganos, como el corazón los pulmones, ojos y riñones, es una rara enfermedad de la cual no existen más de 1000 casos publicados en el mundo. Yo desarrolle la enfermedad a mis 13 años en el lejano 2002 durante la aplicación de inmunoterapia alérgeno específica, la cual es un tratamiento destinado a reducir los síntomas alérgicos y la necesidad de usar medicamentos después de la exposición a alérgenos específicos.
Dado que la inmunoterapia alérgeno específicas puede causar cambios en el sistema inmunológico, es teóricamente posible que también pueda afectar a enfermedades inflamatorias mediadas por el sistema inmunológico, como las enfermedades autoinmunes. Existen varios casos de personas que han desarrollado enfermedades autoinmunes durante este tratamiento y desafortunadamente muchos no se han publicado, es un tema delicado del cual se debe tomar medidas importantes.
