The story of Marissa
Hello! My name is Marissa, I am 15 years old and I have IIH. I was diagnosed at the age of 13.
The most peculiar thing about my case is that I have both low blood pressure and am underweight. Both of these are considered abnormal when having IIH. Taking medication had been a nightmare, as I’ve been on every possible medication for decreasing cerebrospinal fluid pressure I could take, each one having differing side-effects. Since I have low blood pressure and low weight, the addition of medicines that can also decrease appetite and lower blood pressure is not good. I would have to be restricted to my bed because I couldn’t get up due to feeling like I’m going to pass out.
It’s been a tough and long journey, and there’s still more to come. I’ll continue to push forward, especially when things get hard. Thank you for reading about my story! (*^_^*)
