The story of Samantha
I was 22 years old and expecting my first child. I was extremely excited to bring my little man into this world. Around 31 weeks pregnant I expierienced extreme itching on my hands and feet to the point where I would sob and want to rip my skin off. I asked around my family and they all said it was likely dry skin. I posted in a parent support group asking for advice and remedies which was when I first heard about ICP. I googled it and instantly panicked, I called my OB’s office as soon as they opened and the receptionist told me to go to the hospital for testing. The doctor there immediately prescribed me medication and booked me for all the tests after which confirmed my bile acids were extremely high. I was closely monitored for the next 6 weeks having three ultrasounds and about two NST’s a week. I was told I’d have to be induced around 37 weeks as it’s dangerous to carry your baby past 38 weeks. I was induced at 37 weeks and my healthy itch made it to this world safely. I am so thankful I had a medical team who knew what to do and how to do it. I am so beyond grateful to that parent support group who saved my baby’s life. He is now 17 months and thriving.Â
