The story of Rankin

My name is Rankin and I was born with CMTC. I am 8 months old and a chunk! You would never know I was born 5 weeks early and stayed 10 days in the NICU! When I was born the doctors didn’t have a clue what was going on with my skin becuase it was very webbed and purple.

They ran several tests of every organ in my body trying to figure it out. A few days after i was discharged from the NICU I went to Duke Dermatology and saw my favorite doctor. She then knew right away that I had CMTC. She was examining me and noticed that my spine looked a little crooked so we went off for an ultrasound of my spine. After the ultrsound they noticed it looked like I had the same webbed like vessels on my spine. It wasn’t exactly clear so they decided it was best that I get an MRI.

They suggested I be put to sleep for it but my mommy and daddy didn’t want that, so I was a very big boy at only a month old and stayed very still for my MRI. The doctor called back with the results that same day and said it was clear and it must have been a glitch. We were so relieved. My CMTC has faded so much and we visit the dermatologist every six months now. I am a happy and funny baby!
