The story of Vedansh
I was born on 26th March 2004. At the age of 1 my parents noticed that there was some problem with my neck holding. My neck would droop to one side and as a child I was unable to hold it upright.
After a long 2.5 years of investigation they discovered that I had a genetic disorder named Rigid Spine Muscular Dystrophy (RSMD). We also found out that only maintenance can be done and it’s an incurable disease. I followed up with a team of doctors for 12 years. One of the major side effects of the genetic disorder was Scoliosis.
At the age of 12 the doctors suggested that a spine surgery was mandatory or the spine could collapse. It was a life threatening surgery but if not performed I could have been bedridden. The spine surgery was done on 28th April 2016. It took 8.5 hours for the spine surgery. After the spine surgery I was on a ventilator for a week and the doctors weren’t sure how and when they would be able to wean me off the ventilator.
But I had promised my mom that I would come off the ventilator hail and hearty. And I did so in a week’s time. The recovery post the spine surgery was long and tough but I managed to do so and was back home in 40 days and resumed normal school and normal life like any other child.
I also opened my own venture Super Envelopes and developed my social media handle @ninjax_263. I continue to believe that life gives you challenges but it’s how you face them decides your life ahead. And I decided to do that with a smile.
