Living with Pompe Disease

The story of Jackie Hicklin

My name is Jackie Hicklin I’m 57 years of age,I started having trouble limping, when i was 33 years old, I never knew about it, someone told me,I was in a full time job,thought it was down to the work I did,as I made bicycles up from building them.i was having trouble walking and breathing as time went by,month by month, I went to the doctors, but they said I had asthma and cyatica, so was put on painkillers for a few years,but I was eventually getting worse, so I went back to doctors for another check up,where the doctor eventually got me to have a biopsy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, England, it eventually came back as I had Pompe Disease, which is something I had never heard of, I had a bit of councilling I eventually started having Treatment of Myozyme, 7th September 2010,every 2 weeks, which changed my life completely, I went back to normal life, but has the years have gone by I’m struggling with balance and anxiety problems, I’m still having Treatment, and know its a Terminal disease, but I’m living the best life i can.
