The story of Margaret
In 2014 I saw a Doctor with a small lump on the side of my neck, had an ultrasound. She rang and said I had an inflamed parotid gland and to take pain killers. Over the next couple days the lump swelled more and I rang her and her reply was to take pain killers. Three days later I rang her again as the lump was now 5 x 5 x 3cm deep making it hard to open my mouth. Again she said to just take pain killers. In the next couple days ended up in hospital and the lump grew to 9 x 8 x 5cm deep. More lumps appeared and eventually diagnosed with LANGERHANS CELL HISTIOCYTOSIS – a one in a million in adults blood disorder. Over 2 1/2 years I have had 20 lumps. Two rounds of Chemotherapy have failed – my haematologist says my body reacts illogically to treatment as the other 3 patients have had success with chemotherapy. This I will have forever never knowing when another lymph gland will die.
