The story of Dave
Last year I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis after 2 years of tests and biopsies. Not surprised it took a while to work out as I had Non-Hodgins in 2009 and then Hodgkins in 2015 so along with a clinical trial and a stem cell transplant I’m a walking medical experiment!
The fatigue I experience from the disease means I have to manage my rest and sleep or else I’m like a battery that runs flat. That can all be managed and work around my job, family and love of sport and the occasional beer!Â
Despite my medical history I count myself as one of the lucky ones and have always taken inspiration from those I’ve been treated alongside – a notable case being the 70 year old lady I was sitting next to having chemo who was dressed in her disco gear waithing to go out on the razzle straight after. She’d also had a stroke and when I asked her what kept her going she told me she was far too busy to worry about little setbacks like cancer and a stroke!
Everyone has challnegs in life, mine are just a little different to others but if you tell people they are (usually) very nice and very supportive. That’s my advice – keep on movin’, keep pushing through and be nice while you’re doing it.
