The story of Alexandra
It all started with an itch! Just 16 weeks into pregnancy, I started to itch. I was going through a lot, I had just lost my father I was growing a human and I chalked it up to stress. That was until the itching became so intense I couldn’t sleep, I barely wanted to move. Showers were semi relief but nothing truly helped! That’s when the Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor rocked my world and told me I had Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy better known as ICP – oh and not to worry most of babies born before 38/39 weeks are not at risk for stillbirth! I left the office feeling defeated, itchy and scared for my baby girl. Did she itch? Did she feel the stress of this pregnancy? Will I get to meet her?
Before this appointment I had never even heard of such a disease! My doctors were great and worked with the high risk OB and with combinations of medicine (urso), lots of sarna lotion and late night baths we made it to 35 weeks! That’s when my born warrior decided she wasn’t waiting till week 36!
She was born perfect and healthy and all my worries and itching disappeared instantly! However, I am still scared everyday to have another child since most woman go on to have 2nd and 3rd itchy babies!
