Ataxia will not define me

The story of Karen

In my early forties I started noticing changes in my gait. Large steps and feeling I was going to fall. After 2 years of tests at age 45 my diagnosis was SCA5.  At this point I was falling down frequently. Then I couldn’t write my name, buttons were impossible. Slowly my disease progressed. I became totally dependent on a walker. I had no fine motor skills. I went to physical therapy on and off over the years.  When my favorite facility closed. After searching I could not find another like it. So I joined a Gym. It was very stressful. One of the trainers there offered his help!  He came to my house twice a week for a year to help me stay strong.  He has gone above and beyond !!  Now Phillip, my trainer, has stepped it up a notch!  We are now incorporating Boxing into our routine. The results are amazing!!!  #champsboxing #phillipsutton_champs
