Another mystery disease – PMP (Pseudomyxoma Peritonei)

The story of Val Ojeda

I was diagnosed with Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), which is a rare cancer that usually starts in the appendix, in July 2016. It’s a mucin that normally is a slow growing cancer that spreads in the abdomen. This condition is hard to diagnose and treatment is surgery and chemotherapy. There is not enough knowledge about this disease in the medical community, insurance industry and policy makers. I would like to see more awareness of the disease and funding to treat the disease made easy for those with the condition.
