The story of Alisha
In may of 2021 I had my first anaphylactic episode. I had no prior allergies and had never experienced anything like it before. We assumed I had developed a new allergy. Following this episode in may I had over 12 er visits with anaphylaxis between then and the end of June. I was then admitted into the ICU for a week on an epinephrine infusion. There I met the most wonderful internal med doc who happened to have been researching this new disease he heard about called MCAS. From there I was diagnosed and treated. I have had many hospital admissions since then and still struggle but getting a diagnosis helped me get my life back and feel safe again.
