About Spinal CSF Leak Foundation
Spinal CSF Leak Awareness Week, or #leakweek, seeks to elevate the awareness of an underdiagnosed, often disabling but treatable and curable cause of headache, spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. Both genders and all ages can be affected. These may occur as a result of medical procedures, with an unknown incidence or these may occur spontaneously, with an estimated annual incidence of 5 in 100,000 per year. Delayed diagnosis and misdiagnosis are common, as we see with most uncommon or uncommonly recognized disorders. The hallmark symptom is an upright headache, that is, a headache that is worse when upright and improved with lying flat. An upright headache could be a spinal CSF leak. This is treatable and often curable.
