About London North Genomics Laboratory Hub
We are one of seven regional hubs – part of a new national genomics service in England. Our role is to coordinate all genetic testing for the NHS across North London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire.
The Hub, as part of the NGS aims to equalise access to genetic testing for patients and provide a straightforward pathway for NHS staff to refer patients for testing and receive the results. As 80% of rare diseases have a genetic component we recognise the vital role genomics, through this new streamlined testing service, will have in;
- enabling a quicker diagnosis for patients with a rare disease, removing uncertainty,
- matching people to the most effective medications and interventions, reducing unnecessary tests and interventions and decreasing the likelihood of an adverse drug reaction
We will support the day through social media and the materials you have provided. We have not made any concrete plans for an event as such, but we are also looking to draw on the expertise of the scientists and clinicians working with the hub to produce some more communications – which might be blogs and news releases.In addition we are planning some outreach work across our patch such as information stalls.
