About Canadian Rare Disease Network (CRDN) | Réseau Canadien des Maladies Rare (RCMR)
Complementing both provincial and national efforts, the Canadian Rare Disease Network (CRDN) emerged on Rare Disease Day 2024 as a national initiative dedicated to reshaping the way rare diseases are understood, diagnosed, treated, and managed across the country. The vision driving CRDN is one of “innovative care and research in Canada so that all patients and families affected by a rare disease are empowered to live their full potential.” This vision underscores a commitment to creating a healthcare landscape where every person impacted by a rare disease has access to the support, resources, and care they need.
CRDN’s mission is to unite Canada’s clinical, scientific, and patient communities in a collaborative effort to enhance the lives of those affected by RDs. By uniting the RD community, breaking down silos, and leveraging the collective strengths of all partners, CRDN aims to enhance research, accelerate diagnosis, expand access to innovative therapies and comprehensive care and support. Our work is strategically centered around 3 interconnected pillars that are focused on addressing the key challenges faced by rare disease patients and families, from diagnosis and access to innovative therapies, all the way to comprehensive wrap-around care, support and empowerment of individuals and their families. A 4th ‘enabling’ pillar spans across all areas and aligns efforts and partnerships at both the national and global level.
For Rare Disease Day, CRDN will focus on raising awareness and amplifying the voices of those impacted by rare diseases.
