About AKU Society
We are a patient-led charity, with over ten years of experience helping AKU patients. We have developed simple mechanisms for targeting health professionals to help them identify people with AKU and direct them towards appropriate treatment and support. We also provide reliable online information for patients themselves, as well as running annual conferences and an expert assessment centre called the National AKU Centre (NAC), based at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. We also work with other patient groups in order to raise awareness about rare diseases at the national policy level. We aim to lead the way on showing how rare disease sufferers can be empowered.
We are holding a virtual coffee & catch-up session for all of our AKU patients worldwide.
