Patient associations in Panama joined Rare Disease Day in 2011 and have since used the occasion to mobilise the general public in marches, and to push for greater legislation for rare disease patients and orphan drugs.
In 2020, a rare disease video was shown in cinemas around the country to help spread awareness and the Rare Disease Day campaign was promoted through social media channels. In addition a number of iconic landmarks were lit up in the rare disease day colours.Â
