Mexico first joined in Rare Disease Day celebrations in 2010. The awareness campaigns have been aimed at the general public, as well as at leaders in the rare disease community and has involved interviewing politicians and health professionals and holding information seminars at universities and hospitals. A highlight of 2017 was a half marathon in Guadalajara.
In 2020 Mexico celebrated Rare Disease Day by hosting a wide range of events. It saw the dissemination of practical action on Rare Disease topics through national webinars. There was the launch of a TV program for rare diseases. The annual Symposium on Rare Disease was held (marking its 4th year in 2020) providing information to all members of the community, hosting a poster exhibition and helping in the awareness raising efforts. There was an event in Chihnahna coupling a presentation by medical specialists with a fun walk/run in the park.
