Israel first joined in with Rare Disease Day celebrations in 2010 with a conference that focused on different aspects of care for people living with a rare disease, as well as with information on several specific rare diseases themselves. Each year since 2010, a day of lectures has been held to bring together health care professionals and patients to discuss and share the realities of living with a rare disease.
In 2020, the sixth annual International Rare Disease Day conference was held on the theme, "A rare disease is diagnosed - what's next?" The conference touched upon various aspects related to the family's needs once their child has been diagnosed with a rare disease.
In 2021, the seventh annual International Rare Disease Day online conference will take place at the Sheba Medical Center, with the theme "Rare Diseases: Beyond Covid-19". The conference will touch upon various aspects related to rare families and their needs in challenging days as such where almost nothing else matters other than Covid19.
