Egypt first joined the Rare Disease Day celebrations in 2014. Previous highlights of the day include a parade in Hurghada with decorated cars and folklore entertainment in 2016 and a fundraising party for children living with a rare disease at a hospital in Cairo, with face-painting and balloons in 2017.
In 2019 talks were held aimed at all parts of society including those living with a rare disease and their families, patient support groups, and the medical community. A day of games and distribution of toys and gifts for patients and their families also took place.
