In the United Arab Emirates, Rare Disease Day has been celebrated since 2011 with conferences aimed at raising awareness and educating the public. The annual “Patients’ Day” is organised to give patients the opportunity to meet others living with rare diseases. People living with rare diseases and their families come together for a walk, followed by activities for children, including music, kite flying and face painting. The month long campaign is marked by a hands-on approach at the paediatric medical congress, a poster exhibition and awareness events targeting everyone from healthcare professionals to school students and families.
2020 saw a Rare art contest organised for primary school children, a family-fun day and a Rare Disease Day walk all aimed at raising awareness and supporting those with rare diseases.
