Guatemala first joined Rare Disease Day celebrations in 2012. Since then, the country has held gala dinners, marches, concerts, presentations, festivals and parades. More and more events are organised each year by more than 12 patient organisations which have formed an alliance in the greater name of rare diseases. In 2017, Rare Disease Day was supported by the Guatemalan Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry for Employment.

Rare Disease Day 2020 was marked by a Commemoration walk, press conference, radio and TV interviews, meetings and a organised zoo visit for rare disease patients and their families.
