Description
Genetics Matters, one of the FMS flagship public engagement events, is an annual event organised as part of the International Rare Disease Day, to raise awareness of rare diseases and rare disease research in the North East. The event is a combination of lay language presentations and hands on research tables, and is now in its 8th edition. The event will run 10am-5pm on Sunday the 25th February at the Great Hall of the Discovery Museum, and refreshments (lunch, and tea and coffee) will be provided.
We have an exciting program this year, showcasing genetic research in Newcastle, and covering topics such as rare diseases, rare cancers, male infertility, tissue engineering, drug repurposing, human development, ethical issues in genetic research, and patient and public involvement in research, amongst others. There will be hands-on experiments, microscopes, real laboratory specimens, short films, enthusiastic scientists and some rather lovely cake.
Our event this year is at the Great Hall of the Discovery Museum. The hall is located at the top floor of the museum and signage will point you in the right direction on the day.
The registration desk will open at 09:30am and the event will start at 10am.
This event us suitable for ages 12+.
