About Metabolic Disorders Research Center, Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute, Tehran University of Medical Sciences
The Metabolic Disorders Research Center (MDRC) is one of the 13 research centers that form the subsets of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. This center was established in 2012 with the main goal of providing better conditions for patients with metabolic disorders and is currently located on the fifth floor of the Shariati Hospital building. This center was established to help diagnose hereditary metabolic diseases, followed by management and prevention of these diseases and research on their prevalence in Iran. We are committed to creating a multi-purpose center for diagnosis, consultation, and education for patients and doctors. In order to achieve the mentioned goals, the center has been equipped with a Tandem mass spectrometry device. Currently, in order to cooperate between metabolic disorders research centers, genetics groups, and metabolomics and genomics research centers, we are trying to set up a central laboratory. One of the other basic actions of this center is the effort to create a registration system for IEM patients as well as a genetic registry to collect genetic information of these patients, which is currently being launched and will soon be available to all doctors.
