About AADMD UMFCD Bucharest Chapter
Hello,
AADMD UMFCD Bucharest Chapter is an AADMD ward organization established in 2022 and set up with the help of 8 students from “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy
in Bucharest who have led the effort to improve the quality of healthcare for people with IDDs. Studies have shown that medical students as well as physicians are unprepared and uncomfortable working with IDD population. This is where our mission comes in, as we work towards providing the opportunity for healthcare professionals to learn more about intellectual disability.
The pillars of our association are included in the motto “Stop the stigma. Start the awareness.”. As an organization whose purpose is to improve quality of care for all patients with IDD, the most valuable contribution we can make is to hand out our expertise where it will have the most significant impact – places where healthcare professionals are trained.
Besides our official name, AADMD also stands for teamwork and a group of students with an idea, in addition to a dedication for our
patients and a willingness to help. Our thoughts are focused on inclusion and improving medical treatments for all of us, united through our differences. As of now, we are looking forward to create a few instagram/facebook posts, showing some of the rare diseases (1 post a day, 7 days prior to RDD (Feb 28)). For the next years, we want to create something special, an online programme with students, doctors, professors and representatives from Rare Disease Day International and AADMD International (AADMD One Voice), as we noticed the importance of access to medical treatments in our field of work by raising awareness regarding the patients that need it most, people with disabilities.
This is a little about ourselves and of the reasons we want to become a friend of yours, and we are looking forward to hear more from you!
For Rare Disease Day, we will raise awareness on our social media.
