The story of Arthur
I lived a normal healthy life with a passion for fitness, sports, and helping others. To date I still do my best to maintain my positive outlook, though with my condition it has been a everyday battle as my breathing and bodily functions have greatly been impacted.
Up until my early 20s I had some slight inflammation in my nasal turbinates. I was reccomend a procedure known as a turbinate reduction. Trusting the advice given by health professionals at the time, I was given one of the most conservative procedures that is available to date. What I thought would have benefited my chronic stuffiness I would now trade anything to reverse the condition I have due to this procedure.
I developed a plethora of negative and very serious side effects of nasal turbinate surgery which unfortunately has left me with many difficulties such as a compromised nervous system, not being able to swallow or eat normally, nerve damage, breathing and lung issues, and a host of other systemic issues that effect my every day life.
Breathing is very misunderstood and to date it is very difficult to find providers and experts who understand the totality of the severe damages that can be caused from the negative side effects of turbinate surgery.
I hope that more health professionals can become more aware of the misinformation that plagues post surgical turbinate injuries(Empty nose syndrome) and that a more humane and tolerable approach is given when dealing with patients who have complaints related to these complications. To date, patients with diagnosis are left without much viable solutions and in great suffering.
I also hope that more health professionals can provide more alternative means of treating allergic or inflammatory responses to future patients in a responsible way where surgery is not a first option as many in the post surgical turbinate injured community feel they have not been given other means of treatment as I had also experienced.
May the future become brighter for patients with medically caused illnesses and most importantly no longer continue to be stigmatized as we patients gave our trust to those who have turned a blind eye to our suffering.
Peace and healing to all.
