The story of Laura
My name is Laura and I’m 9 years old. Until I was 3 years old, I was a healthy kid. When I got to kindergarten I became tired more and more often, I fell many times and sometimes I had a hard time talking. I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 2017, but despite the treatments, my condition always got worse. My doctors continued to examine and in 2021 it turned out that I was suffering from Mitochondrial Disease caused by a mutation in the POLG gene. Unfortunately, this disease has not cure. But my parents and I are trying to stay positive. Unfortunately, because of my illness, I have to avoid getting sick so I study and exercise at home. I really enjoy listening to stories and I love being visited by my friends. Together with my family, we believe that a cure for my illness will soon be found.
