The story of Martina
My name is Martina, I live in Genoa (Italy). I’m 27 years old and I’m graduated in Marine Sciences with full marks. Since I was born I’ve lived with Phenylketonuria, PKU for friends, a potentially serious metabolic disease. In fact, when treatments don’t start in time, PKU can cause irreversible mental diseases. Phenylketonuria is a rare disease: in Europe the frequency is about 1 in 10,000 births. Especially my parents took time and energy with PKU: despite my capricious enzyme, they never made me feel sick or different.
PKU is my characteristic, my special being!
