Camden’s Story

The story of Jamie

Camden was born in October 2010.  We had an uneventful pregnancy. He was born about 3 1/2 weeks early. Although he was small he was “healthy”. We were allowed to go home after a normal 2 day hospital  stay. At Camden’s 3 month check up a heart murmur was detected. We were sent to a cardiologist just to check to make sure it was nothing. As it turns out it was not nothing. When we went to the cardiologist he would not let us leave until a pediatric cardiologist surgeon looked at his test results. We struggled through weeks of weekly cardiologist appointments and a cardiac cath to end up needing his first open heart surgery at 6 months. This was successful however the success only lasted a few months and we found out that Camden needed a second open heart surgery at 9 months old. This was also successful and we have been lucky since. Now Camden is a wonderful happy 10 year old. He loves to play the electric guitar and drums. He is friendly to all and loves life, trains, dogs and music. With hard work and a dedicated Special Ed staff at his school he’s able to maintain time in the mainstream classroom with parts of his day in a self contained classroom. Camden is well known in his school for his sunny personality and love for all. Just like all kids he has his strengths and weaknesses but he’s such a joy to have his Dad and I wouldn’t trade him for the world.
