The story of Joel

June 18, 2019 I went into the hospital with intense burning in my legs.  Next thing I remember was waking up out of a medically induced coma on July 1, 2019.  Over those days the doctors gave me a 10% chance to live.  My kidneys, liver, blood and heart were under attack.  My blood pressure was dropping hard.  My heart stopped at least 4-times during the first week.  The docs told my wife to bring in my daughters to say goodbye.  Then the miracle happened.  4-5 IVIG treatments and lots of drugs later I was stabilized enough to come out of the coma.  When I finally woke up, I had no feeling from the waste down, my hands and feet were easily 10x’s the normal size, I was extremely weak, I couldn’t stand without help.  Today, I still have trouble walking, I need titanium braces to get around.  I’m being medically retired from the military.

I was diagnosed with SCLS or Clarkson’s Diease.
