Being a carer and at risk of a rare disease.

The story of Ashley

I have been a carer for my father for around ten years ! He suffers from Huntington’s DISEASE which is a rare genetic disorder. Yes genetic, there is a 50% chance my brother and I will inherit the disease !

Caring for my father has been difficult, with what HD does to your mind and your body. Little to no help or support was given to us until recently and even still it’s not support from who it should be. The medical system has forgotten us and doesn’t care ! It is difficult to live a life and provide the care my father requires.

It is even harder to think of the future I might have, or if after caring for my dad I’ll have to care for my brother!
