The story of Nicole
My daughter Ava was born January 17, 2016. At one day old she was sent to a NICU and stayed for a week and a half. We discovered she had situs inversus with dextrocardia. Her heart and stomach are on the right and her liver is on the left. After her breathing got better they sent us home. We were home for 8 days and she was coughing and stopped breathing on us. We were transported back to the 2nd hospital from our er, were there for 2 days and transported to U of M CS Mott’s children’s hospital. There, they were trying to figure out what her wet cough was from and why it was causing her to stop breathing. They did some blood work and discovered she has Primary Ciliary Dyskenisia, which could also be the cause of her situs inversus. We have now been home for 11 days and she is doing well. We have to be very careful of germs as she is at high risk for respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia. She gets breathing treatments twice a day and if sick 4 times a day. She is kicking butt though. I say she is my little Rock star.
