The story of Dianna
I was diagnosed 28 years ago, at the age of 19, with Addison’s Disease by a bright young intern who “thought outside the box”. Addison’s is a bit strange in its symptoms because I always look well and healthy even when very very ill. A few loud arguments have occurred at hospitals when, on the verge of a crisis, the staff have ignored what I said and just triaged me based on how I look. My motto has always been to take personal responsibility, and not rely just on the medical professionals. Challenge, question, be persistent and forceful until you get what you know you need. And if you need more tests, more medication or lifestyle changes just do it (apologies to Nike for borrowing their slogan). It’s worked for me, seen me through a few close calls and got me this far, and hopefully another 28+ years.
