Color Wars for Rare at Northern Middle School for Rare Disease Day
Student Body President Emma Southard, with the Student Government Association (SGA), will lead students and faculty members in a “Color Wars for Rare.”
6th grade students are challenged to wear neon colors to honor the Rare Disease Day logo.
7th grade students are challenged to wear orange and blue to honor the logo colors of the official Rare Disease Day US sponsor, NORD.
8th grade students are challenged to wear black and white to represent the rare disease mascot, the zebra.
Faculty members are challenged to wear colors associated with the grade they serve.
With wide support from faculty members, on Friday, February 21, Emma will be giving speeches to the student body throughout lunch periods to explain rare disease facts and the importance of Rare Disease Day. Teachers will receive rare disease fact sheets, information on resources, and how to get involved with advocacy efforts through NORD’s Maryland Rare Action Network. Northern Middle School, faculty members, and students with social media access will be encouraged to share pictures and take part in NORD’s #ShowYourStripes campaign.
This challenge has been issued statewide to all Maryland Student Government members, including Governor appointed leader and Maryland Department of Education member.
