Brazil first participated in Rare Disease Day in 2010. Over the years, celebrations have extended throughout the entire week leading up to Rare Disease Day to raise support and awareness for rare disease patients. Highlights have included the march for Rare Diseases, the airing of a television documentary on rare diseases and even Zumba classes. There have also been events offering glucose tests and the opportunity to register to donate bone marrow.
Rare Disease Day 2020 brought together all members of the community promoting inclusivity for those living with rare diseases. A variety of events were held from a ‘Rare Race’ to a televised Mass at the Basilica to a range of meetings and conferences.Â
